Yannick and I went to met up with a music teacher at Isikhokelo Primary School in the township of Khayelitsha in Cape Town. While we were waiting outside the school for the meeting I started playing my guitalele. To our surprise kids started gathering and surrounding us, they loved it! And we were ecstatic too, it was such an amazing vibe, high on love! It’s so fascinating how music can have such an impact on little kids, I’ve never experienced something like this. Make sure not to miss the last two minutes of the clip, we even got them to clap and sing “the lion sleeps tonight” with us!
Yannick is a super cool musician I’ve met in Cape Town and we’ve become very good friends. I’m currently involved in a project with him where I am recording a short documentary on one of his music ventures. This time he’s collaborating with a marimba band in the township of Gugulethu just outside of Cape Town. And we are also involving this breathtaking kids choir from Isikhokelo School in Khayelitsha. What happened inside of the school after this first encounter in the playground was magic. But we’ll have to wait for the documentary 😉
Hope you enjoy the clip, it was a beautiful moment for us.
